[Movies] John Grisham’s The Testament Coming To The Big Screen
Posted by Larry Csonka on 06.23.2009

According to Variety, John Grisham's 1999 best seller The Testament is coming to the big screen. Producers Mark Johnson and Hunt Lowry will be teaming with 821 Entertainment Group to option the book. The Testament is the story of a billionaire who when he dies, leaves his entire fortune to an illegitimate daughter in Brazil to defy his greedy relatives. She seeks the help of a down on his luck lawyer to help her fight for her claim to the money. Mark Johnson spoke briefly on the project, saying the following…

"I've been calling them since I read it the first time and felt it had the best of the courthouse stuff that John writes so well, plus this exotic adventure in deepest Brazil."

The one thing that will be different is that Grisham will have creative input on the film, something he did not have in past films, and a reason that he has been avoiding Hollywood. Other Grisham books in the works for big screen adaptations are The Innocent Man: Murder and Injustice in a Small Town, Playing for Pizza, and The Associate.

When are we going to get a film adaptation of The Brethren? I think the themes and topics discussed in that novel would be particularly timely.

Shhhhh Texas Kelly! You're going to ruin the belief out there that people no longer read books!
